We redesigned the front elevation and rear garden of this Mount Maunganui home to create a seamless connection between the clean lines of its modern architecture and the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape.
The challenge was to soften a strong structural form without losing its contemporary edge. Our solution was to anchor the garden with warm, textured sandstone hardscaping, used for retaining walls, steps, and feature pathways, which brought an earthy, grounded feel to the space.
Around this framework, we introduced a thoughtful palette of native plantings that offered softness, movement, and resilience. Grasses, flax, and low-maintenance shrubs were layered for depth and flow, providing year-round interest while staying true to the local environment. The result is a garden that feels both fresh and familiar, a modern sanctuary rooted in natural materials and the quiet strength of New Zealand’s native flora.
